Precept In The Bible

It should be noted that in this article, the word “precept” is used in quite a generalized sense, without reservation or limitation. The preceptive part of the scriptures has a direct bearing on one’s attitude towards the Law and how it applies to us today.

No kingdom is sustained without a system of doctrines or principles. To accomplish this, the precepts of man must be overthrown, from which we derive the force of our criticisms regarding what comes before us in these chapters. Also, you are on the wrong side of history. It’s embarrassing for me.

The scriptures contain hundreds of passages that can be used to lead someone to Christ. Rather than looking for popular Bible verses, leaders should focus on the quiet or “forgotten” verses that have the ability to transform lives. When a person sees how God’s Word has been important in major areas of their life, they are inclined to trust and obey it: “Knowing is one thing, but putting it into practice is quite another. The key to real change is not just knowing what God’s will is—it’s applying what you know” (Romans 12:2). Through application, outlines the power of biblical principles by guiding us along the path to transformation.

If you thought the word “precept” was a made up word, you’re not alone. Unfortunately, there are many Christians who believe the same thing. They could be sitting in the front row Sunday morning or be participating in an online forum and they’ve never even heard of precepts in the Bible. As Christians, this is a huge problem on which to focus our attention.

Precept In The Bible

In the Bible the word precept is used seldom, except in the plural form, in which it occurs 21 times in Psalm 119. Here the Psalmist alternates among a variety of words: “testimonies,” “commandments,” “statutes,” “law,” “judgments,” “precepts,” all of which are more or less equivalent terms for Divine ordinances or decrees, God’s exalted rule of conduct for His children. Psalm 119 is widely recognized as a Hebrew poem, richly styled, written to show the highest reverence and honor to God and His law, and this fact may account for the varied terminology.
