Prayer To The Holy Innocents

This prayer works for children who have different kinds of difficulties that prevent them from enjoying this time of childhood. To pray for yourself or another person is also a good way to develop the right attitude towards children, or to see things as they really are.

Innocents are those who are too young, or those lacking in maturity or experience. The biblical story of the holy innocents comes from Matthew 2:13-18. During a time of famine, King Herod is told that the infant Jesus had been born. He orders all males under two years old to be killed in order to eliminate young Jesus. The family flees to Egypt and stays there until Herod dies at which point they return to live with relatives in Nazareth.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

O blessed martyrs of Jesus Christ, who gave your lives for the faith and delivered yourselves as lambs for the slaughter, obtain for me from God constancy in faith and purity of heart.

Prayer To The Holy Innocents

We remember today, O God,
the slaughter of the holy innocents
of Bethlehem by King Herod.
Receive, we pray,
into the arms of your mercy
all innocent victims;
and by your great might
frustrate the designs of evil tyrants
and establish your rule of justice, love and peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the union of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

Amen.

Dear Jesus, we thank You for Your blessed martyrs, the Holy Innocents. We praise You for the holy sacrifice they made by dying in place of You, and we ask You to hear their prayers on our behalf.

Holy Innocents, you were the victim of evil King Herod’s cruel jealousy. Fearing that his power would be usurped, he ordered your deaths. You gave up your lives in place of Christ.

Please bring my prayers before the throne of Jesus for Whom you died!

You were cruelly killed at a young age by Herod’s soldiers. You died innocent victims, and we venerate you as martyrs because you were killed in place of the Infant Jesus.

Pray for us, that we may always be willing to lay down our lives for Christ. Pray that we may grow in devotion to God each day.

Holy Innocents Novena – Day 2

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Dear Jesus, we thank You for Your blessed martyrs, the Holy Innocents. We praise You for the holy sacrifice they made by dying in place of You, and we ask You to hear their prayers on our behalf.

Holy Innocents, we know very little for certain about any of you beyond the sacrifice You made for Jesus. You died in humble obscurity, but God rewarded you for your sacrifice.

Please bring my petitions before God Who rewarded you!

Herod only cared about killing the Infant King who could usurp his power. But because of Herod’s pride and malice, your lives were brought to an end early.

Pray for us, that we may grow in humility and true virtue each day of our lives. Pray that we may strive to grow in imitation of Christ at every opportunity.

Amen.

Dear Jesus, we thank You for Your blessed martyrs, the Holy Innocents. We praise You for the holy sacrifice they made by dying in place of You, and we ask You to hear their prayers on our behalf.

Holy Innocents, you were ordered to be killed by Herod when you were under two years old. You were innocent and defenseless, but you were brutally murdered in place of the Christ Child.

Please bring my petitions before Jesus for Whom you gave up your lives!

Though you had done no crime and had committed no offense, you were put to death. We honor you as martyrs because your lives were sacrificed for Jesus.

Pray for us, that we may always do all we can to defend those who cannot defend themselves. Pray that we may have the courage to do what is right.
