Prayer To The Holy Cross

A prayer to the Cross is a short, one sentence prayer akin to the “The Lord’s Prayer.” The standard form is as follows: “Most holy Cross of my salvation, despise me not, but vouchsafe to help me and keep me that I may honor You always and now and forever more. Amen.” As you can see it is brief and succinct. This prayer is a great way to begin a day with, or end a day on, especially if you give yourself to Christ each day with this devotion. Prayer can be a life-changing experience when done properly. By the way, this prayer will be easy for you to memorize because it only has one sentence!

St. Lawrence removed his vestments and laid them aside, and then standing near his sacrifice in the midst of the fire, he stretched forth his hands, to make an offering of himself. And after a little while, turning towards his executioners he said: “You will not have such another chance.” Then they laid hold on him and cast him into the fire, where he was burned, gasping out the name of Jesus all the while.

O Lord Jesus Christ, who in your most bitter passion prayed for those who were striking you, and for the sake of my own people and all others have mercy on me.

Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son of God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Enlighten my heart with the true faith, nourish me with the heavenly sacraments, guide me by Your Holy Spirit, protect me from the Evil Spirit and lead me to eternal life; Through Thee we return to the Father. Amen.

Prayer To The Holy Cross

Oh, Adorable Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, You have suffered death on the Cross for our sins.

Oh, Holy Cross of Jesus, be my true light!
Oh, Holy Cross, fill my soul with good thoughts.
Oh, Holy Cross, ward off from me all things that are evil.
Oh, Holy Cross, ward off from me all dangers and deaths and give me life everlasting!
Oh, Crucified Jesus of Nazareth, have mercy on me now and forever.

In honor of the Precious Blood of Jesus, his death, resurrection and ascension which leads to everlasting life; true as Jesus was born on Christmas Day; true as Jesus was crucified on Good Friday; true as Joseph and Nicodemus took Jesus down from the cross and buried Him; true as Jesus ascended into Heaven; may He preserve me from my enemies visible and invisible forever.

Oh, Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me! Mary and Joseph pray for me.
Lord Jesus Christ, through Your suffering the Cross grant me strength to bear my Cross without fear or dread and give me the grace that I may follow You. Amen.

Holy Cross, whereon the Lamb of God was offered for the sins of the world,

Deliver and save us.

Hope of Christians,

Save us, O Holy Cross.

Trophy of victory over hell,

Hope of the hopeless,

Light of those who sit in darkness,

Foundation of the Church,

Salvation of the world,

Bread of the hungry,

Fountain of those that thirst,

Clothing of the naked,

Lamb of God, Who was offered on the cross for the sins of the world,

Spare us, O Lord.

Lamb of God, Who was offered on the cross for the sins of the world,

Graciously hear us, O Lord.

Lamb of God, Who was offered on the cross for the sins of the world,

Have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy.

Christ, have mercy.

Lord, have mercy.
