Prayer To The Good Shepherd

Most people think that only priests or nuns can pray for intercession by the Good Shepherd. While this may be so, we have been asked to share a short prayer that each person can pray in their own way and at their own time. It is a short prayer delcared during Mass by Pope John Paul II.

Good Shepherd, I thank you for your goodness; for the ways in which you provide for me, and care for me. The ways in which you give yourself unto me. You give yourself and this grace is yours to bestow upon whomever you choose. Help me to be mindful of your presence in my life, and lead me onto paths of righteousness and holiness. Help me to be a good steward of the gifts you have so graciously granted unto me.

Abba Father… I come before you right now to seek your guidance and ask that you send your Holy Spirit to give your guidance. You have a plan for each of us and this life is only one stop on that journey. We thank you in advance as we know whatever you have planned will be good, but first we ask that you guide us so we can continue to be the best vessels possible that you can use in the world today.

O Lord, Who through Thine only-begotten Son art merciful to all sinners and dost trample upon the asp and the basilisk. O Christ our God, Who hast power to pardon sins, forgive in Thy kindness and love my transgression, great or small, committed willfully or from ignorance.

Prayer To The Good Shepherd

Lord of the 23rd Psalm,
I have known death,
and you have refreshed my soul.
I have known fear,
and you have comforted me.
I have known hunger,
and you have set a feast before me.
In the darkest valley
no calamity of humankind or nature has separated us.

Teach me to walk as you walk
Beside those in mourning
so that they will know joy,
Beside those in fear
that they will know comfort,
Beside those in hunger
that they will feast until their cup overflows.

As your goodness and love follow me,
May mine follow my neighbor
That the threat of the worst terrors
May turn to the knowledge of the comforts of
the house of the Lord,
Where you have invited us to dwell forever.

And so let me strive to help build on earth
What you have promised us in heaven.
In the face of all calamity, present and yet to come,
Let me lead my neighbor beside quiet waters,
The quiet waters of the Good Shepherd.

Psalms 23:1-6
Lord, You are my shepherd so I will lack nothing. You restore my soul! You lead me on the right path because it is Your nature to do so. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not fear because You are with me. I thank You for equipping me with Your rod and Your staff so that I can be comforted. You anoint my head with oil and ensure that my cup (my portion) runs over with abundance! Thank You for this good shepherd Sunday and for Your goodness and mercies all the days of my life, Amen!

John 10:7-18
Father, I thank You for being the door of Your sheep. Lord, I adore You because You hear me, and through You I am saved! The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but Lord You have come so that I may have life and have it more abundantly! Thank You for being the good shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep! You are not a hireling who sees His sheep as a job, but You are the good shepherd who sees His sheep as His children. So on this good shepherd Sunday, I thank You because, You know Your sheep and are known by Your own. Thank You Lord! Amen

John 10:24-29
Dear Lord, I thank You for the works that You have done in Your Father’s name for they bear witness of You. I believe in You because I am Your sheep, You are my good shepherd. I heard Your voice, know You, and follow You. Thank You for the eternal life that You have promised to Your sheep. Lord, on this good shepherd Sunday, I will give thanks because in You I will never perish! No one will snatch me from Your hand. You Father, who has given me to You, is greater than them all, Amen.

1 Peter 2:25
Eternal God, Lord, I was once sheep going astray; but I have now returned to You the Shepherd and Overseer of my soul! Thank You for watching over me even when I was not faithful to You. Thank You for loving me unconditionally so that I could return to Your flock like I had never left! You are the Good Shepherd, You would leave ninety-nine sheep just to save the one! I adore You for being a shepherd and not a hireling. So, on this good shepherd Sunday, we bless and appreciate You, Amen.

Numbers 27:17
Heavenly Father, it is You who goes out before them and goes in before them. It is You who may lead them out and bring them in, so that Your congregation may not be like sheep which have no shepherd. Father, You are with us all the time so that we always have Your guidance and can follow Your instructions. I thank You for staying by my side so that I can be led down Your paths of righteousness, Amen.

Psalm 95:7
You are my God O Righteous One! We are the people of Your pasture, and the sheep of Your hand. Thank You for taking us to Your fields of joy and peace, near the streams of blessings. Your flock adores You because You always ensure that we experience the best if we hear Your voice and follow You. Lord, there is no one like You, there is no greater shepherd, Amen.

Ezekiel 34:14-16
Lord, You are the Good Shepherd. Your Word says that You feed me in good pasture, in a fold in the high mountains of Israel! To me this means that You will bring me to good places in life; to the best places to feed on spiritually and emotionally! Lord, I am assured that You will feed me and make me lie down, it is in You that I find rest. You seek what is lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick! Thank You Lord, Amen.
