Prayer To St Rosalie

Saint Rosalie is among the many patron saints of France. She was born in 387 in Tuscany, Italy. Her Roman parents had a Christian background and her mother St Ansanus was a martyr under Diocletian. Her family moved to France where she lived at the time of the assault on Rome in 410 by Alaric and his Visigoths. She hid Christians in her home but they were discovered and killed by the barbarians. In their efforts they killed St Radegunda who was fleeing with her and St Rosalie assisted them without betraying Radegunda’s hiding place.

Saint Rosalie was born in the ancient territory of Burgundy under the pagan name Bertha. Her father, Dacidus, was a pagan judge and he gave her an education appropriate for his position in society. However, Rosalie’s mother secretly taught her to pray and to read the Holy Bible. When she grew older and was introduced to those who came before her father to settle their disputes, she never neglected to pray that they would be guided into making the right decision and that they would find peace within themselves.

This prayer is said to St Rosalia who is the patron saint of Palermo, Italy and was known for her miraculous healing powers. This vibrant prayer uses vivid language to appeal to the Saint to intercede with the Lord on the supplicant’s behalf.

Heavenly Father, may this devotion increase the faith of all Christians and help to plant the true seed of virtue in those in need. Amen.

Prayer To St Rosalie

St Rosalia (1130-1166) was born into a noble family at Palmero. She was a descendant of Charles the Great who united much of Europe during his thirteen-year reign (742-814).

St. Rosalia, daughter of Sinibald, Lord of Roses and Quisquina, was a descendant of the great Charlemagne. She was born at Palermo in Sicily. In her youth, her heart turned from earthly vanities to God. She left her home and took up her abode in a cave, on the walls of which she wrote these words: “I, Rosalia, daughter of Sinibald, Lord of Roses and Quisquina, have taken the resolution to live in this cave for the love of my Lord, Jesus Christ.” She remained there entirely hidden from the world.

St Rosalia wrote on the cave wall, “I, Rosalia, daughter of Sinibald, Lord of Roses and Quisquina, have taken the resolution to live in this cave for the love of my Lord, Jesus Christ.”

She practiced great mortifications and lived in constant communion with God. Afterward she transferred her abode to Mount Pellegrino, about three miles from Palermo, in order to triumph entirely over the instincts of flesh and blood, in sight of her paternal home. She is said to have appeared after death and to have revealed that she spent several years in a little excavation near the grotto. She died alone, in 1160, ending her strange and wonderful life unknown to the world. Her body was discovered several centuries later, in 1625, during the pontificate of Pope Urban VIII. Her feast day is September 4th.
