Dear Lord,

I pray for the preacher, who has to stand up in front of a room full of strangers and talk about something that might make them feel uncomfortable. I pray for their ability to speak with confidence and clarity, as well as for their humility and grace. I pray that they may help others find comfort in their words, and that they may continue to grow in wisdom and knowledge.

Dear Lord, please grant this prayer request on behalf of all preachers everywhere.

Dear Lord,

We come before you today with a humble request. We ask that you guide and protect the preacher as he preaches to the congregation. Help him to speak clearly and loudly so that everyone can hear him, and may he have the wisdom to know when to move from one subject to another so that his message flows smoothly. May he be guided by your divine wisdom as he prepares for tomorrow’s sermon, and may he remember that it is not about him but rather about you and your glory. We also ask that you help us all to listen attentively as this man speaks these words of truth in our midst, that we might be edified by them and grow closer to you through them. And finally, please remind us all of your mercy on those who have strayed while we were distracted or absent-minded or just plain bored—forgive us our sins, dear Lord, and help us find new life in your gospel. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!

Dear Lord,

Please bless our preacher with the wisdom to speak your word and the courage to speak it well. Grant them the ability to see through the eyes of their audience, so that they may best serve those who are listening.

And please help us, your children, to be receptive to what they have to say. We know that we are not perfect; we know that there is much more for us to learn. But if you open our ears and show us how we can improve ourselves and our world through better understanding of your word and love for one another, then we will be most grateful.

In Jesus’ name, amen

Dear God,

I pray that you would bless the preacher with the words needed to uplift our congregation, and help them find comfort in their time of need. I pray that you would also bless him with your wisdom and understanding. Thank you for all the blessings you have given us today, and every day.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

Dear God,

We thank you for the gift of this man, who has chosen to be a preacher. He has dedicated his life to helping others find the path to salvation, and we pray that you will guide him in his work so that he may continue to spread your word.

We pray that you will keep him safe from harm and illness, and provide all of the resources he needs to fulfill his calling. Please help him avoid temptation and keep his mind focused on what is most important: bringing others closer to our Savior.

Amen

O Lord, I pray that you will guide me in my preparation and delivery of this sermon. I pray that you will open my heart and mind to hear your word. I pray that you will give me the strength to deliver what is true and good in this moment, even when it is not easy or comfortable for me to do so.

I pray that you will help me see you in all those who will listen to this message today. Help me to see their struggles, their needs, and their desires for peace and love. May I be able to speak with them honestly about your love for them, so that they may know what it means to be loved by God through his Son Jesus Christ.

I pray that you would also reveal yourself through my own words as well today—that what I say may be used by you as a tool for transformation in the lives of those who hear it. May they have ears to hear, eyes to see, hearts set free from sin through repentance and faith in your Son Jesus Christ.

I ask these things in Jesus’ name: Amen
