Almighty God, Father of all creation,

you have made us in your image and redeemed us by the death of your Son.

We praise you for the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, when your Church was born to proclaim the Gospel to all peoples.

We ask Mary to assist us in our daily efforts to become closer to Christ. May we experience the same joy and peace she felt as she thought about her Son’s victory over sin and death. May the example of St. Peter and his companions, who bravely professed their trust in Jesus despite their fear, encourage our hearts. May us always be true to the gospel truth that they so bravely and firmly preached.

Give us the strength to fulfill our baptismal promises every day as we work to bring about peace in our families, communities, nation, and world through our own efforts and through prayerful support for those who work for justice on behalf of people who are denied basic human rights like freedom from torture or slavery or who are oppressed because of their race or gender.

To commemorate the festival of Pentecost, we are assembled here today. We commemorate the arrival of the Holy Spirit, who came upon Jesus’ followers fifty days following his ascension, during the Jewish harvest festival. They received the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit as it descended upon them in the form of fiery tongues.

We celebrate this day by gathering together and praying for our own Holy Spirit to descend upon us as well. May we be filled with great power and wisdom as we seek to follow Christ in our daily lives! May we grow in our love for God and neighbor! And may we always be open to receive the gifts that God has given us through his Church!

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your Son Jesus into this world to die for our sins so that we might have eternal life with You. Thank you for giving us His Holy Spirit so that we can live out His teachings every day. Help us today as we continue on this journey toward heaven! In Jesus’ name, Amen

We thank you for the promise that our lives are filled with grace and hope, and that we have been given a new mission to bring the Gospel to all people.

Help us to be brave in sharing this Good News with others, trusting that your Holy Spirit will guide us in our words and actions. May we remember that you have called us to be witnesses of your love, and to share that love with all people.

We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen

O Lord, who didst give the Holy Spirit to Thine apostles on the day of Pentecost: Grant us also to be filled with the same Spirit, that we may speak Thy words truly and faithfully; that we may teach Thy truths with firmness and constancy; and that we may defend them from error at all times and in all places; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We thank you, God of wisdom, for giving us the gifts of knowledge and faith. We are incredibly grateful for the Holy Spirit’s gift of guiding us into all truth. Please grant us the discernment to see and embrace what our hearts are trying to tell us. Help us to see things objectively, rather than through our own or others’ lenses. Please love us and make it obvious to us what is good and wrong. Aid us in making wise decisions in life. Show us the route and enlighten us with your energy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We praise you, O God, for the gift of your Holy Spirit. Through this sacrament, we have received the power of the Holy Spirit to be witnesses to the Gospel and to bring forth its fruit in our lives. We pray that we may be given the courage to bear witness to Jesus Christ even in times of persecution and suffering.

We pray that we may love one another with a new love born of faith and hope, so that we may grow in holiness as we live out our baptismal promises.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
