Prayer For Holy Innocents

Prayer is an effective method for changing our reality. We all pray from time to time, but how often do you really pray? Prayer is often hard to remember, but this prayer and meditation can be inscribed upon your heart, so that it becomes a daily or hourly reminder.

Blessed John the Baptist, Precursor of Our Lord, You have received God’s promise of salvation for all flesh, and therefore you bring Christ the Redeemer before Him even in the womb. We thank You for the great joy which your mother, Saint Elisabeth, shared in with her parents, Zachary and Saint Elizabeth, when she learned from the angel of their forthcoming gift. We thank you for the divine mercy extended to your cousin Saint Joseph, who stood in the presence of God on Earth so that he may be a worthy guardian of God’s Incarnate Son.

And finally we thank you for choosing to spend your humble life with Mary as her protector and faithful follower. Through your life of poverty, chastity and obedience you have given us an example of holiness to be followed in imitation of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We are blessed in that through your preaching we are drawn closer to Christ by the voice of our conscience; through your firm faith we become children born again of water and the Spirit; through your innocence we are freed from corruption; through your protection we receive an inheritance among God’s elect. Pray for us that our faith may be nourished by frequent communion with Holy Mother Church

Prayer For Holy Innocents

The “Prayer to the Holy Innocents” is a prayer to the infants of Bethlehem, the very first Christian martyrs, who were slaughtered at the orders of King Herod, who was seeking to eliminate the Baby Jesus, who Herod saw as a threat to his kingship, as reported in Sacred Scripture:

“When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.” (Matthew 2:16)

Dear Jesus, we thank You for Your blessed martyrs, the Holy Innocents. We praise You for the holy sacrifice they made by dying in place of You, and we ask You to hear their prayers on our behalf.

Holy Innocents, you were the victim of evil King Herod’s cruel jealousy. Fearing that his power would be usurped, he ordered your deaths. You gave up your lives in place of Christ.

Please bring my prayers before the throne of Jesus for Whom you died!

You were cruelly killed at a young age by Herod’s soldiers. You died innocent victims, and we venerate you as martyrs because you were killed in place of the Infant Jesus.

Please bring my petitions before God Who rewarded you!

Herod only cared about killing the Infant King who could usurp his power. But because of Herod’s pride and malice, your lives were brought to an end early.

Pray for us, that we may grow in humility and true virtue each day of our lives. Pray that we may strive to grow in imitation of Christ at every opportunity.

Holy Innocents, your lives were taken from you by Herod and his soldiers before you had the chance to live for very long on this earth. After your lives ended so early, God rewarded you for your sacrifice by bringing you to Heaven.

Please bring my petitions before God Whom you worship in Heaven!

You suffered brutal death for the sake of Jesus and lost the opportunity to serve Him in this world later in life. Because of this sacrifice, we venerate you as martyrs.

Pray for us, that we may always take every opportunity to serve God as He asks us to. Pray that we may grow in openness to God’s will each day.
