Introduction

While every recognized Christian denomination holds some services on Sunday, many also have Saturday service. These denominations include the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Seventh-day Adventists.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) is the formal name for the Mormon Church. It is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah and it is the most widely practiced religion in that state. In fact, it’s the second largest church in America, with over 16 million members worldwide—making up nearly 2% of all Christians worldwide.

The church was founded by Joseph Smith Jr., who claimed to receive divine revelations from God and Jesus Christ through angelic visitations in 1820s New York State and Pennsylvania before moving his followers to Ohio where he established a communal society called Kirtland Camp which later became Zion’s Camp before losing most of its members due to persecution by nonbelievers during their Missouri campaign against slavery abolitionists like Frank Blair Jr., who was later elected senator from Missouri at age 21 years old.”

Jehovah’s Witnesses

Jehovah’s Witnesses is a millenarian restorationist Christian denomination with nontrinitarian beliefs distinct from mainstream Christianity. They consider their religion to be the restoration of primitive Christianity, which they believe to have been corrupted by the Great Apostasy and developments in mainstream theology among other factors. The group traces its origins to John Nelson Darby, who set forth apocalyptic doctrines of the end times in 1827 (see pre-tribulationism) and in 1863 formulated the doctrine of “one consideration” (or “one thing”). The core theological belief of Jehovah’s Witnesses is that God’s sovereignty rules out any possibility for man to gain salvation through good works or self-improvement by one’s personal initiative; hence salvation can only be obtained by God’s grace based on faith through Jesus Christ. They also believe that Jesus Christ alone has come to give men eternal life, not being a mediator between God and men; but He will do so only if they accept Him as Lord and Savior by faith.

Seventh-day Adventists

The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Protestant Christian denomination that was founded in 1863. It is the second largest of its kind in the United States and has over 19 million members worldwide. It was founded by Ellen G. White, who claimed to have visions from God which she wrote down and shared with others. The church’s headquarters are based out of Silver Spring, Maryland.

Church of God (Seventh Day)

Church of God (Seventh Day) is a Christian denomination that arose from the Latter Day Saint movement. It is headquartered in Nampa, Idaho and has congregations (called “fields”) throughout the United States, many of which are located in Kentucky and Tennessee. The church teaches that each person must be baptized by immersion for the remission of sins, and then receive baptism by fire as a gift from God to enter heaven; it rejects infant baptism as well as any other means of grace that it does not consider scriptural.
