Bible verses about justice and revenge

The Bible is filled with verses about justice and revenge. Here are a few:

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” -Romans 12:17-18

“Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.” -Romans 12:19

“But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this you will heap burning coals on his head.” -Romans 12:20

Romans 12:19-21 (NIV) Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

  • “Do not say, ‘I will do to them as they have done to me; I will pay them back for what they did.’ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:17-21
  • “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.” – Romans 12:19
  • “Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.” – Romans 12:15

“Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”

-Romans 12:19

Proverbs 24:29-34: “Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; lest the Lord see it and be displeased, and turn away His wrath from him. Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger and forsake wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evildoing. For evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land. For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; indeed, you will look carefully for his place and he will not be there. But the humble shall inherit the land, and delight themselves in abundant prosperity.”

In this passage, God tells us that we should not seek revenge on those who wrong us or rejoice when they fall. Instead, we should forgive them and hope for their salvation.
