Bible study on 1 thessalonians 5: 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 ESV 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; Kelly Wright I try to read the bible in reverse order. I start with Revelation, then Psalms and progressively move back through history One book at a time. Reading this last book of Paul’s before he was martyred didn’t disappoint. The first four chapters are foundational, especially chapter 1. This Old Testament saint shared some great advice for young disciples just getting started in the faith, such as developing hospitality and taking a hard line on sexual sin including those who were unclean, or those who had sex outside the relationship they were in and especially included practicing homosexuals.

As we continue our study into the role purity plays in the lives of Christians we will see this again and again throughout history. We either become slaves to lust or we remain faithful to our spouse and practice self denial when necessary as an expression of our love for Christ both now and later in eternity. Did you know that Paul gave a sermon which lasted six chapters? It was his longest sermon by far.  In this Bible study, we will be looking at the fourth and fifth chapters of 1 Thessalonians.

1 Thessalonians 5

1 We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 2 We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 3 For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you; 4 because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. 5 You know what kind of people we proved to be among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord; 6 for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7 So we too feel confident about you; we know that as you absorb God’s word, it will grow roots in you and bear fruit for eternity. 8 So may God’s grace richly bless all of you!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always,

17 pray without ceasing,

18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

  1. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we were not disorderly among you, nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day so that we might not be a burden to any of you.
  2. Not that we do not have the right to such support, but rather that we may give ourselves as an example to you in your conduct before outsiders.
  3. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, neither let him eat.” (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12)
