A Prayer For The President

Lord, please give Donald Trump the wisdom to know what to do. Give him the strength to do it, and the courage to follow through. Guide him as he makes decisions for our country. Help him to have a heart for those who are suffering, and to make decisions that will help them. Help him to be an example of your love in this world. Thank you for your mercy, grace, and forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen

A Prayer For The President

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

A Prayer For The President

A Prayer for the President

This prayer was written by John W. Van Alstyne, who served as the president of Austin College for 18 years. It was first published in The Christian Herald on January 4, 1884 and then reprinted in the book The President’s Prayer Book: A Collection of Prayers (1903).

The original text reads:

“Praise be to God for all His blessings; for liberty to worship our Lord according to the dictates of our own conscience; for protection from enemies without; from error within; from discouragement and failure at home; from temptation everywhere.”

“O Thou great Preserver! Preserve our country through this perilous time: protect her rulers by Thy wisdom and love, that they may make laws promoting freedom, justice, peace and true religion! Keep them steadfastly loyal to their trusts—that they may be an example before men.”

“Guide us we pray Thee O Holy One! In all things —in thought word or deed—and grant us grace so to live that when death comes we shall be found worthy of life eternal with Thee forevermore.”

Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the President of the United States, and all in authority, in Thy holy protection.

Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the President of the United States, and all in authority, in Thy holy protection.

That Thou wilt inspire him to discern thy hand in all events; that he may know that all things work together for good to them that love thee and are called according to thy purpose.

Finally, we pray for ourselves: That if it be Thy will that any of us should be a witness or victim of religious persecution or oppression during these troubled times, we may have grace and strength to endure whatever comes upon us with patience and charity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

We pray that Thou wilt incline their hearts to justice and to that which is right, and that each may do his duty in the office to which he has been called of Thee.

We also pray that Thou wilt incline their hearts to justice and to that which is right, and that each may do his duty in the office to which he has been called of Thee.

“The president’s office is a sacred trust.“

Regard with mercy those who have charge over our land; grant them wisdom from on high, courage, firmness and patience.

As the leader of our country, you are also the head of government. As such, it is your responsibility to set an example for all Americans by leading with integrity and fairness. It is also your responsibility to ensure that all who work in public service are held accountable when they fail at their jobs.

So many times we find ourselves disappointed or even outraged by negative actions taken by those who govern us—and rightfully so! When people act out of line, we feel as though our trust has been betrayed and our trust in others has been shaken. We wonder if anyone can be trusted at all anymore. But then there’s another side: We can give thanks for those individuals who use their positions wisely and nobly, even when doing so means making tough decisions or standing up against pressure from those around them who wish their loved ones’ interests were placed above what’s best for everyone else (like when parents decide against sending their children off to war).

We ask it in the name of Thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We pray that the President will be blessed with wisdom and strength. We pray that he will lead our country wisely, according to God’s Word. We pray for him to understand his position as a leader; we ask it in the name of Thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We pray for those who are in positions of leadership: for governors, mayors, senators and representatives at every level of government; for military leaders—both on land and sea—and police officers everywhere; for judges and justices who have been appointed by these leaders; for heads of state around the world who bear responsibility over their people’s lives (especially north Korea). We pray that all these leaders would be wise in their decisions, just in their judgments and faithful to God’s Word in all they do while holding office or working under authority granted them by others’ election or choice (Romans 13).
